Enchanted - Chapter 3
Pallavi got nearer to the window and saw what she never thought she would in reality. Gerard, Frank, Mikey and Bob had their swords drawn out and in front of them stood a creature, which looked more dead than alive. He wore a long black coat and was pretty mean looking by appearance. His eyes were hollowed inside, as if they didn’t exist at all. Single handedly he was tackling all the four guys who were challenging him. White strings were shooting from his fingers, turning everything into ice. The girl viewing this from outside, hidden under the window sill, couldn’t hear what was being said but she surely hoped it was all a theatrical set up.
In a flash that evil thing was gone, just vanished out of site. Pallavi pinched herself really hard and ended up hurting herself. She rushed in through the door. What she couldn’t see the window, was visible when she stood right in the middle of the room.
“What did you do to them” she demanded, her eyes transfixed in one corner “What happened here? What did you do to them?” she screamed falling to her knees. It was impossible for her to convince herself that it was a dream. Jess, Shelly, Vanya and Patrick stood in the corner like statues, turned into ice like so many other things in the room. The ice was so clear; it gave an illusion of being crystals inside which they were tapped.
“I knew we shouldn’t have come here” she cried, then turned to look at the other guys “Do something!”
“We don’t know what to do” Frank replied foolishly
“You caused it and you’ll fix it” she threatened”I don’t care which parallel world you belong to. I don’t care whether you are magicians or wizards or whatever else. Just fix it!”
“Why don’t you go to your own house, while we figure this out” Bob kindly said.
“I am not moving until I see them move their limbs.”
“Look this is magic okay and it cannot be undone so easily” Mikey responded
“Why I wouldn’t have known. Thank you for that enlightening information” she snapped “You are magicians to, just do something”
“We can't use magic in front of you”
“Honestly does it even matter!” she sad losing her patience and her temper. “I do know your nasty secret don’t I”
“Hey it’s not nasty” Frank defended
“Yeah you are nasty” she retorted “Now do something” over powering her urge to cry in front of them, she turned on her heels and into a random room.
“She” Frank began “Is very weird”
“We better find a way to get this back o normal” Gerard said looking over Bob’s shoulder, to see four pair of eyes staring at him.
Bob's eyes suddenly widened shining brightly. “Heat!”
“Huh?” the rest quizzed
“Heat the place, the ice will melt then.”
His suggestion seemed to be the only logical thing to do at the time, but they were also convinced that it wouldn’t be so easy to get rid of the ice. They moved out any way, including Pallavi. It didn’t take too long to convince her to leave the premises temporarily.
“Look we’re extremely sorry for this” Gerard apologized “we didn’t know this would happen, otherwise we wouldn’t have called you at all.”
She swallowed hard “I don’t want any explanations Gerard. They are my only family just don’t take them away from me.”
For a whole hour they waited outside, crossing their hearts against all odds that the ice would melt. No one spoke anything. Pallavi cried silently, while the guys busied themselves with something or the other. Frank busied himself with staring at the depressed girl.
“This effin ice won't melt!” Frank angrily said, standing in front of the door.
The house was burning like a barbeque, but not even a millimeter of the ice had turned water. Pallavi just stood there in front of the statue, looking from one face to another. Her eyes froze on Patrick. She felt guilt rise neck high inside her. There had always been some tension between her and pat, but she did like him, only she had never told him. Right then she didn’t know whether she would ever be able to or not. She held on tightly to the ice, feeling cold herself, wetting her own shirt. It would’ve been better if she’d frozen along with them.
“Are you crazy!” Frank shouted, pulling her away “you’d freeze with them” he ran a spell down her body, making her warm again
“Can't you do that on them?” she hopefully asked
“I already tried”
Tears ran down here eyes. Frank apprehensively approached her and hugged her. She cried harder in his arms.
Gerard, Mikey and Bob came out in a single file.
“We’ll have to call Toro.” Bob declared.
“Oh man calling him is such a job” Frank wailed, letting go of Pallavi.
“It’s our only choice”
“Do you think you can stay here alone?” Mikey kindly asked her “Or do you wan to come with us?”
“I-I’ll come with you” she replied with difficulty and moved behind them. The sun was just setting; it was going to be hell of a long night.
